MAINTAIN YOUR SMILE WITH
Periodontal Care in Tampa
PERIODONTAL THERAPY
Periodontal therapy is indicated when there is bone loss around the teeth, bleeding, and sub-gingival plaque or calculus. The initial treatment includes scaling below the gums, irrigation with an anti-microbial solution and polishing. Some patients call this a “deep cleaning” - but don’t worry! We will ensure you are comfortable with a strong topical numbing gel or local anesthetic. We will give you some “homework” including a take home mouth rinse to use daily and instructions on flossing, using a water flosser and at times, a prescription toothpaste.
This is typically a three appointment procedure:
Cleaning of half the mouth – i.e., we do the right side
Cleaning of the second half of the mouth – i.e., the left side
Re-evaluation in 6-8 weeks with touch-ups, polishing, and application of fluoride
GINGIVITIS THERAPY
Gingivitis therapy is indicated when there is inflammation of the gum tissue — typically seen with bleeding in multiple areas of the mouth while flossing or brushing. Gingivitis therapy is a focused treatment to address early-stage gum disease caused by plaque and tartar buildup along the gumline. It involves a thorough cleaning to reduce inflammation, prevent progression, and promote healthy gums. At Tampa Bay Dental Design, we tailor gingivitis therapy to your needs, helping restore your gum health and protect your overall oral health. Regular follow-ups and good oral hygiene practices are essential for lasting results. After the initial treatment, we will schedule you to return in 4-6 weeks for re-evaluation.
PROPHYLAXIS
“HEALTHY MOUTH CLEANING"
A prophylaxis cleaning focuses on removing plaque and tartar buildup above the gumline, keeping your teeth clean and healthy. It includes thorough cleaning, polishing, and is often followed by a fluoride treatment for added protection. This type of cleaning is typically recommended every 4-6 months, depending on your individual oral hygiene needs. It’s an essential part of maintaining a bright, healthy smile

This is dependent on each patient’s unique oral biome. Some patients build up plaque or calculus more quickly than others; in this case you will be seen more frequently perhaps every 3-5 months. Any patient that exhibits bone loss (periodontal disease) is seen every 3-4 months.

Dry mouth is a side effect of many medications and can be a sign of so many different autoimmune diseases. It is uncomfortable and causes more problems like cavities or periodontal disease in your mouth. A few tips: (1) stay hydrated!, (2) come in for regular cleanings every 3-6 months, (3) use a mouth rinse like Stellalife, which you can purchase in our office.

Ensure you are staying up to date on your dental hygiene both at home and at our clinic. We advise purchasing a tongue scraper and ensure you are using a quality toothpaste. Mouthrinses can help but do not overuse as overuse can dry your oral mucosa. We carry a natural product, Stellalife, which is safe to use throughout the day leaving you feeling refreshed.
-
Bleeding is a sign of inflammation and can be triggered by a multitude of different things like poor oral hygiene, an increased amount of bacteria or pregnancy.
You might be wondering what you can do about your bleeding gums. Ask to schedule a periodontal evaluation and cleaning and we should be able to help you within 60-90 minutes! We may send you home with additional products or prescriptions if necessary.
